PSLC & ICTLC LevULup Offering

Java with Greenfoot Bootcamp - Introduction

Welcome to the ICTLCs LevULup offering. We've reworked one of our Cybercamp modules, the Greenfoot/Java Bootcamp (which will cover an introduction to Java programming using the Greenfoot Integrated Development Environment or IDE), and made it available to any students who are interested. The module is quite short (around 2 hours video time in total) with some suggested activities and exercises to work through.

As we've reworked from a Cybercamp offering, you may hear some references to Live Sessions or meetings in the videos. Unfortunately, we're not in a position to run Live Sessions this semester, but hope to run them in the Spring for anyone interested.

In this video we will introduce the course and briefly explain what topics we will be covering.

If you have any questions, why not call into the ICT Learning Centre or the DLSH site. If you've any other questions please reach out to us at our email address: cybercamp@ul.ie

We wish to acknowledge that this series of videos uses the "Little Crab Scenario" from Michael Kölling's book, "Introduction to Programming with Greenfoot" (Chapters 2-4) as the basis for our introduction to Java programming.(Michael Kölling is the creator of the Greenfoot educational development environment).

So now checkout the next video where we'll discuss how to download the Greenfoot Software and the skeleton code (i.e. the starter code) for the game we will be developing on this course. REMEMBER we'd like you to download this software onto a USB key with a minimum of 2GB available storage so that you can take your work with you to more than one machine which will give you greater flexibility.
