Welcome to Digital Learner Support Hub (DLSH)

A project funded by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching & Learning in Higher Education

The Digital Learner Support Hub (DLSH) is a collaborative project between ULs 5 Learning Centres (LC).

We will offer some of the supports that we traditionally provide in the centres face-to-face (F2F) on-line.

This is to meet our aim of increasing the reach, accessibility, and utility of our supports to our ever-changing student population, to make our supports more useful and relevant to modern undergraduate and postgraduate students.

  • On-line supports offered for a number of historically difficult modules and disciplines.
  • Access wherever you are whenever suits you best!
  • Supports complement our traditional supports so you can still call in to talk to us in person!

This project is funded by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching & Learning in Higher Education. For more details please visit:

DLSH Is Designed To Help You Excel

The Model

Our model is based on tiers.

    For each support,
  • Tier 1: An 'asynchronous' (non-interactive) support is made available to the students.
  • Tier 2: Following this a 'synchronous' (interactive) session follows for students to deepen their understanding.
  • Tier 3: If after both these supports a student still feels they need more help they can call into the LC for more one-to-one help.
DLSH Supports

A number of support types are used at each tier of the DLSH. These are broken into three distinct groups which are:

  • Asynchronous: either a video or BrightSpace lesson page
  • Synchronous: either a live Big Blue Button ® conference call or a moderated forum
  • Face-to-Face: in person chat either one-to-one or as a group at the Learning Centre (LC)
Feedback Loop

From each session we gain feedback which helps us to tweak any previous tiers' support or to help guide us on what support we should provide next.

Frequenty Asked Questions

  • The Digital Learner Support Hub (DLSH) offers a suite of multi-tiered supports from ULs 5 Learning Centres (LC). The aim is to help make our supports more accessible and responsive. DLSH is a site that operates through BrightSpace to act as a one-stop shop for all supports offered by ULs LCs. While only a pilot this year, and so only a limited amount of content and supports will be offered, DLSH will be an access point for students to help and advice they may need with their course of study.

  • Beyond our traditional face-to-face (F2F) supports in the centres, each of ULs Learning Centres (LC) will offer additional on-line support to students. From step-by-step video tutorials explaining core concepts, to moderated forums where you can ask (and if you feel you can help) answer questions, to real-time online sessions run using our Big Blue Button ™ software, the LCs are making our support available to students in ways and at times that suit them best.

  • These new support will complement our existing services, so you can still call into the LCs to ask questions or get help in person. We will be encouraging students to try out our DLSH supports first but will always be there to help those who prefer an in-person chat.

  • The supports are created by staff in the LCs and the moderation of the forums and the real-time online sessions are also support by trained, knowledgable LC staff members. We're here to help!

  • As with all our supports, use is DLSH is free to all registered students of UL. So there's nothing to lose! Give it a try! DLSH on BrightSpace

  • So, what is DLSH? (run time 09:37). We also have a framework document which gives a little more detail about how the framework and DLSH work.
